Cricketer Parvinder Awana was thrashed by a group of five assailants on Friday in UP's Greater Noida

Cricketer Parvinder Awana was beaten up by a group of five assailants on Friday in UP’s Greater Noida. According to News agency ANI, The 31 year old seamer was attacked and beaten up by five people in Greater Noida. Meanwhile the police has initiated a probe into the matter. The sequence of events is as of yet unclear. Awana told the Indian Express that his vehicle, a Mahindra XUV, has been damaged in the incident.

The right arm medium pace bowler is currently a part of Kings XI Punjab squad in the Indian Premier League. He made his international debut for India in a T20I against England in 2012. He went onto make only one more appearance for his national side since then. Apart from  this he has also played for the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League.  He signed up with the franchise in 2012 and was a regular part of the team till 2014.

This is the second time the Delhi based cricketer has been attacked. Earlier in 2014, he was punched repeatedly by a policeman in Noida after a heated argument over parking. The incident also happened just days after another fast bowler  Mohammad Shami was allegedly abused by three youngsters near his residence in South Kolkata’s Katjunagar over a parking issue.

Awana began his first class career playing for Himachal Pradesh in 2007. Since then he has shifted base to Delhi. He has made a total of 62 first class appearances in his career in which he has accumulated 191 wickets. Apart from this, he also has 63 wickets from 44 List A appearances.
