With MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh at the twilight of their careers, there are speculations of whether they will continue till the 2019 World Cup or not. It seems there is some sort of a confirmation that has finally come on this topic. Well, it seems chief selector MSK Prasad has finally cleared the air on this subject by stating that a consultation would be done with Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri before taking a final call on the two senior pros. With the emergence of youngsters like Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah into the side and after their performances helped team India reach the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy, it could very well be possible that Virat looks ahead. In the process, sideline MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh.
“We will see, we need to talk on that. We will have to take a decision, let’s see how it goes. We all know who can add value. Again, we will go slot by slot. We should know when to take a call. It’s not that suddenly you take a call and you are nowhere. You can’t be totally unprepared, so we need to be balanced on that aspect,” Prasad told Wisden India.
It seems this issue will also be stretched like the Anil Kumble saga, which is the last thing required for team India. With quality batsmen like KL Rahul and Manish Pandey waiting in the wings, India needs to reassess the longevity of Yuvraj Singh, keeping in mind that he will be 37 when the 2019 World Cup gets underway. His reflexes by then are bound to slow down.
With Mahendra Singh Dhoni in good touch, scoring at an average of 64 this year, which includes 3 fifties. Yet, it will be tough for him to continue till the 2019 World Cup as his reflexes are going to slow down.
