Delhi Daredevils stupefied their fans by renaming the franchise Delhi Capitals after 11 long years. Let’s face it, by now Delhi fans are used to see their team being knocked out of Indian Premier League (IPL) but the renaming was just brutal. The best they ever did was to reach the semi finals in first two seasons (2008 & 2009) and playoffs in 2012. Maybe the franchise owners felt that a change of name might change their luck ahead of the IPL 12 auction.

Delhi also announced that Shreyas Iyer will captain the side in IPL 2019. Iyer took over captaincy in the previous season as Gautam Gambhir stepped down from the captaincy role after a string of defeats.
India’s star opener Shikhar Dhawan is also returning to the squad after a decade to boost the top order alongside young gun Prithvi Shaw.
Even though the new name of the franchise, Delhi Capitals makes most fans cringe. It will all be forgotten if Delhi at least reach the playoffs this season.
