Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah, who plays for Liverpool, has urged his fans and the global Muslim community to ‘change the way the women are treated’. In an interview with TIME magazine, Salah said, “I think we need to change the way we treat women in our culture. It’s not optional,” he said.
Speaking of the treatment meted out to women, he said his attitude had been change by what he saw within ‘his culture and in the Middle East’. “I support the woman [sic] more than I did before, because I feel like she deserves more than what they give her now, at the moment. I think we need to change the way we treat women in our culture,” Salah, who led Egypt in FIFA World Cup 2018, told the magazine.

Salah was named as Premier League Footballer of the year 2017-18 and African footballer twice in the past two years.
He also shared the challenges he faced after becoming a celebrity and being seen as a role model in Egypt: “To be the first Egyptian in [this] situation and no one has done this before … it’s something different”, he said.
Whereas footballers enjoy lavish lifestyles which is quite visible on their social media handles, Salah prefers spending time with his family during break from football leading a normal lifestyle away from the cameras.
