We have seen extraordinary celebrations from footballers before. We have witnessed signature celebrations, like Cristiano Ronaldo,
and tried to copy it. But Italian footballer Mario Balotelli redefined celebrations by going live on Instagram immediately after scoring a goal.
Balotelli had someone holding his phone for him near the goal post when he scored a goal with a overhead kick against Saint-Etienne on Sunday. The Marseille footballer then took the phone and started an Instagram live, recording his celebration with teammates. The selfie video has gone viral with more than 3 million views.
This is the first time a footballer has done something like this. The Saint-Etiene coach Jean-Louiss Gasset compared him with Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the post match interview. He told AFP,
“Balotelli takes the pressure, he takes the limelight. He reminds me of (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic and he scored an Ibrahimovic goal.He has brought back the public, the confidence, and many of his teammates will raise their level of play.”
