Mohammed Shami seems to be in troubled waters on both personal and professional fronts. Shami’s wife—Hasin Jahan—recently made allegations of his extramarital affairs and that seems to have led to some action. Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the annual contracted players and their revised pay on March 7 and Shami was nowhere to be found on the list, despite touring South Africa recently in a Test series in 2018.
According to DNA’s reports, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri were made aware of the whole scenario. According to the report, a call from Committee of Administrators (CoA) was made to BCCI to hold Shami’s contract until they got to the bottom of the matter.
An unnamed official told DNA,
“BCCI is in a bit of dilemma because there is a question of ethics involved here. Anyone can say that it’s purely a personal issue and has nothing to do with his professional life. That argument can be taken. On the other hand, some might accuse BCCI that a player has been rewarded despite such serious allegations, including attempt to murder, are being levelled against him by his wife.”
The source also compared Shami’s incident with English all-rounder Ben Stokes who got into a fight outside a Bristol nightclub.
The source also said,
“It was a call from COA on Wednesday asking BCCI to put Shami’s name on hold till further decision that cleared the air. This was despite Stokes being named vice-captain for such a high-profile series like Ashes. And the charges against him was of causing ‘bodily harm’. But here in the case of Shami, his wife is alleging attempt to murder and we all know that it’s a non-bailable offence as per the law.”
This also puts Shami’s contract of Rs 3 crore with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Daredevils (DD) in danger. IPL will be kicking off on April 7.
According to the unnamed official, “We’re deliberating on this sensitive issue and once we reach on a conclusion, we can comment on it”.
Shami’s wife went to the press and revealed that she has all records of his alleged chats with the women he allegedly has been having affairs with. She also revealed that one of the girls hailed from Pakistan, with whom he allegedly had an affair with in Dubai. Here’s what she said to the media —

Shami’s wife has planned to take legal action against him and is discussing the course with her lawyer.
