India’s pace spearhead Mohammed Shami is one of the best pacers in the world. And we have proof. Shami has found a way with reverse swing. He has been controlling the reverse swing very well and he put it on display against New Zealand. However, he is great with the new ball also. He can swing the ball both ways. He bowls with a good pace and his sharp movement often flummoxes batsmen. And that’s what happened with Moeen Ali.
England’s batsman Moeen Ali had hit his hundred and Indian bowlers were not able to trouble him much. Mohammed Shami came on to bowl to him. Shami was bowling round the wicket. He bowled the ball at such an angle that it appeared to Moeen Ali to be going to the keeper. Ali was leaving the ball by Shami, thinking it to be harmless. But Shami and the ball had other plans. As if the ball had its mind, it came into Moeen Ali sharply and at a rapid pace. Before he could even react, the ball had sent the leg stump flying. The stump landed after taking several rotations in the air. What a sight!

Recently, South Africa’s pacer Rabada had got Usman Khawaja out on a superb ball.

Rabada’s ball had also came in and was unplayable. However, Shami’s ball can be termed better. The reason is that Rabada was bowling at WACA, which is considered the fastest pitch in the world. WACA was aiding pace-bowling. The conditions in Australia also favour pacers. However, Shami was bowling in dry Indian conditions. India pitches traditionally favour spinners. Pacers here completely bank on their skills to move the ball. And Shami has done that.
