India are playing their historical 500th Test cricket match against New Zealand in Kanpur

Team India won the toss and decided to bat first in the historical 500th Test match at the Green Park stadium in Kanpur on September 22, 2016.

Stumps, Day 1 – 4:41 pm: India managed to put up a total of 291 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja remains unbeaten at 8 and 16 respectively. Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner notched 3-wickets each while Mark Craig, Ish Sodhi and Neil Wagner all picked up a wicket.

4:30 pm: Trent Boult is on fire. He picks up his 3rd wicket with the dismissal of Mohammed Shami. Shami departs for a duck. India 277/9.

I couldn’t have imagined – I mean I have been inspired by all these legends having played – being the captain for the 500th Test and I will try to take it all forward. I feel honoured. We have 6 batsmen, with 2 spinners and 2 quicks, and two batsmen will chip in as part-timers.”

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson: “Would have been nice to win the toss. Looks a very dry surface, would have liked to bat first but not to be. Had a good weekend and acclimatized to the heat. The wicket looks different to the Delhi wicket. Looking forward to an exciting young team and looking forward to good spinners unraveling here on this pitch. We have 3 spinners, one being the all-rounder, and Boult and Wagner are the two-seamers.”

Green Park – PITCH REPORT by Sunil Gavaskar: “This pitch is a little different because when we played, it was more brownish; now it’s more beige-colored. There weren’t many cracks when we played, so it will turn, making batting difficult in the 3rd and 4th innings. This pitch IS going to turn but there are also some runs on the first couple of days”
