For the upcoming Shotgun World Cup second stage which is scheduled to be held in in the Mexican city of Acapulco from March 17 to 27, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has announced a nine-membered Indian team. Double Trap shooter Ankur Mittal, who fired a silver in the recently concluded World Cup combined leg first stage here, was on Thursday named among eight others who have made into the national team.
In the recently concluded World Cup combined leg first stage, India’s shotgun squad had won one silver medal through Ankur’s efforts in Double Trap while Angad Vir Singh Bajwa had won a bronze in the Skeet Mixed Team discipline, conducted for the very first time in a World Cup stage as an unofficial Test event, partnering US’s Haley Dunn.
Besides, Ankur and Angad, the other members of the squad include: Shapath Bharadwaj (Men’s Double Trap), Amrinder Cheema (Men’s Skeet), Kynan Chenai (Men’s Trap), Rashmee Rathore (Women’s Skeet), Zoravar Singh Sandhu (Men’s Trap), Man Singh (Men’s Skeet) and Birendeep Sodhi (Men’s Trap).
Commenting on the squad, National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) President Raninder Singh said: “We have begun the season on a strong note and are confident that our shotgun shooters will continue the good work in Mexico. We wish the squad all the very best.”
Acapulco will see a total of 216 shotgun athletes from 32 nations undertake 224 starts for the five set of medals up for grabs.
There will also be an unofficial Test event conducted for the Trap Mixed Team event additionally. The selection criteria for the Indian team for international events also takes into account Minimum Travel Scores (MTS).
