India finished with their best-ever medal haul at World Wrestling Championships 2019, winning 5 medals in total.
Bajrang Punia became the first Indian wrestler to clinch 3 medals in the Championships after defeating Mongolia’s Tulga Ochir 8-7. Vinesh Phogat and Ravi Kumar Dahiya sealed Tokyo Olympics quotas for India. While Phogat defeated two-time bronze-medallist in the 53-kg women’s freestyle event, Dahiya won bronze in his tournament debut. Rahul Aware bagged a bronze medal defeating his opponent 11-4 in 61 kg category while Deepak Punia settled for a silver after pulling out of the 86-kg men’s final due to an ankle injury.
India finished 17th on the medal-tally improving their previous best of 3 medals in 2013.
