Watch: Steven Smith goes one step ahead of Dhoni, learns Marathi to impress his fans

Steven Smith will be leading the Rising Pune Supergiant side in Indian Premier League Season 10 for the first time after relacing MS Dhoni as captain

It seems like all is well between India’s stand-in Test captain Ajinkya Rahane and Australian skipper Steven Smith. Smith offered to have a beer with Rahane post-Dharamsala Test. It’s an Australian tradition to have a drink with opponents after the contest is over. But, Rahane refused the invite due to his commitments with the team as he was busy celebrating with Indian players after winning Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

This incident sparked controversies as the Test series was a bit sour for both the countries, involving sledging on and off-the-field. But Rahane, the new calm and composed captain has doused the flames, well, it seems like it in the photo posted by Smith on his Instagram account.

The caption of the photograph reads, ”Trying out some traditional Indian fashion here in Pune with Ajinkya Rahane. What do y’all think?”

The photo shows Rahane presenting Smith in a ‘Maratha’ attire from Pune. Smith is wearing a ‘Maratha’ turban and Peshwa’s royal outfit coupled with ‘kolhapuri’ footwear.

Smith will be captaining the Pune side for the first time after replacing former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni who led the side in the previous season.

Moreover this, Rising Pune Supergiant skipper Steven Smith has even recorded a video for his team fans and that too in Marathi language. In the video, Smith has urged Punekars to support their home team.

Him replacing Dhoni created a stir among the fans as they would have been able to see Dhoni as a captain of RPS after he stepped down as the leader of the Indian side.

Smith is in fantastic form and is familiar with Indian pitch conditions having scored 3 centuries in the Test series. His teammate Rahane too showed his attacking side in the Dharamsala Test scoring a quickfire 38 in a low-scoring chase including two humongous sixes.
