Dancing is not everyone’s cup of coffee. One’s got to learn the art, master the manoeuvres. For some, it comes naturally; while for others—hah! They just keep chasing the bull, don’t they? Gautam Gambhir, the fiery and feisty left-handed opener, the firm and fantastic captain for the Kolkata Knight Riders, is many things but not a dancer.
“You’ve seen my footwork on the field. But there’s another set of footwork that I definitely don’t enjoy,” started Gambhir in a two-minute video that filmed behind the scenes of a promotional advertisement. The video soon follows up on the many excuses the captain gave to avoid shaking a leg.
“Maine aaj tak nahi kiya, Yusuf karega aur Robin karega (I haven’t done it until today, Yusuf and Robin will do it),” Gambhir reasoned tactfully to get away with the dance moves that the advertisement demanded. “Main dhol bajata hoon, mere se hoga hi nahi (I will beat the drums, I won’t be able to do it).
The aggressive and the artistic opener, who often lacks footwork early on in the innings, maintained his stance elsewhere, too. “Pakad loonga lekin hiloonga nahi (I’ll hold it, but won’t move),” Gauti stressed after convincing the DOP into just beating the drum for the shoot.
