April 14, 2017 will be remembered forever in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as it happened for the first time that two hat-tricks were taken in a single day in two different games. In the game number 12, played between the Royal challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians, Carribean man Samuel Badree took the first hat-trick for Bangalore while the second hat-trick of this season was taken by Gujarat Lion’s Andrew Tye, who dismissed three Pune batsmen—Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary and Shardul Thakur—in three consecutive balls of the last over.
It was the over number 20 when Andrew Tye, who had already taken two wickets, came into bowl. By then, a healthy partnership of 47 runs was built between Manoj Tiwary and Ankit Sharma and both were playing a very fabulous inning. Ankit Sharma was the man who faced the first ball and tried to hit that hard and big. Though the ball went too high in the air, it ultimately landed in the safe hands of Brendon McCullum who was present in the deep. Sharma departed for 25 after playing 15 balls.
Meanwhile, the strike was changed and facing the next ball was Manoj Tiwary. Following Ankit Sharma, Tiwary also went for a big shot towards the backward square leg boundary but was caught by Ishan Kishan. Tiwary returned to the pavilion after scoring 1 off 27 balls.
Next man in was Shardul Thakur, who came in to bat at number 8 and became the third victim of Andrew Tye. Tye delivered a knuckle ball into the blockhole, to which Thakur ended up playing all around it. The ball sneaked through to knock the leg-stump.
With that Tye became the first man to take a 5-wicket haul in the current season of the IPL. He took 5 wickets in his spell of 4 overs and conceded just 17 runs.
Earlier today, in the RCB vs MI match, Bangalore’s Samuel Badree dismissed Parthiv Patel, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma in the 3rd over of the game to take the first hat-trick of IPL 10.
