After winning the toss, Hyderabad skipper elected to bowl first and asked the Gujarat Lions to come and bat. The Suresh Raina-led side failed to perform with the bat in the first over and the top order including the skipper was hunted down by the Afghani man Rashid Khan. Rashid took 3 wickets in 4 overs and pushed the entire Gujarat batting line-up to backfoot. With few supportive innings played by Dwayne Smith and Dinesh Karthik, Gujarat Lions managed to put a total of 135 on the board and set a target of 136 runs for Hyderabad to chase.

David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan came in to open the Hyderabad inning and they charged right from the beginning. Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed bit early by one of the senior bowlers of Gujarat, Praveen Kumar after he had scored 9 off 9 balls. But this early shock didn’t affect Warner and his new partner, Moises Henriques who came in at number 3.

Both of them didn’t lose the grip throughout the game and they carried the game till the end and won the game by 9 wickets. David Warner played a skipper’s knock and with the help of 4 sixes and 6 fours, smashed 76 runs off 45 balls. Moises Henriques also scored a half century and his knock of 52 runs off 39 balls played the supporting role in winning the game for Hyderabad.

Rashid Khan, who turned out to be the sensation today and grabbed the Purple Cap, was declared as the Man of the Match for his terrific spell of 3-19 in 4 overs.
