Though the Gujarat Lions played massively in the first innings against the Kolkata Knight Riders and put a massive score of 183 runs on the scoreboard after losing 4 crucial wickets. But in return, what the KKR opening pair of Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn did in the second innings was simply a nightmare to the Gujarat in their very first game. Without even losing any wicket, Kolkata just smashed the Lions and beat them by a total of 10 wickets with 5 overs remaining.
No Gujarat bowlers were able to do any wonder or even try to save the game and lost it badly. Gambhir and Lynn collectively had no mercy on the Gujarat bowlers while their bats kept on yielding runs. The skipper smashed a total of 73 runs off 48 balls while the big man from Australia, Chris Lynn left no stone unturned in leaving the GL players in pieces. He scored a furious total of 93 off 41 balls.
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir won the toss and invited Gujarat Lions to bat first. After losing 4 wickets Gujrat set a target of 184 runs where skipper Suresh Raina smashed 68 runs and played a vital role in the first innings. Opener Brendon McCullum scored as quick 35 off 24 balls while Dinesh Karthik scored 47 off just 25 balls.
All the efforts made by the Gujarat batsmen were washed out by their bowlers who failed to take even a single wicket or even limit the opening pair. Boundaries in the form of fours and sixes kept on coming from Gambhir and Lynn’s side which led them to the victory single handedly.
Chris Lynn was nominated as the Man of the Match for his extraordinary inning of 93 runs!
