Rising Pune Supergiant got off to the worst start possible after losing Ajinkya Rahane in the first over. Earlier, Gujarat Lions won the toss and opted to field. Suresh Raina got the game rolling with a one-handed blinder. Steven Smith walked out to bat and seemed to be in-form right from ball one. Along with opener Tripathi, he got the innings back on track but soon wickets started tumbling. Tripathi departed when the team total was 64 and then wickets fell in all intervals. Steven Smith followed pursuit as he departed for 43. Ben Stokes got off to a start but could not carry on as he departed for 25 off 18 balls. The big miss was Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who never got going and is proving to be a burden now for the team.
Praveen Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja proved to be costly as they leaked runs, both gave away over 10 per over. A good hand by Ankit Sharma and Manoj Tiwary, who are making a comeback to the team, got RPS to a respectable total. Manoj Tiwary departed for 31 off 27 balls. Andrew Tye’s hat-trick really was the standout. Gujarat Lions need 172 to win, which is bound to be tricky.
