Gujarat Lions have signed all-rounders Irfan Pathan and Ankit Soni as replacements for the injured Dwayne Bravo and Shivil Kaushik for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign. While Bravo failed to recover in time from a hamstring injury, Kaushik featured in three matches before being ruled out of the tournament. Bravo has been replaced by Pathan, who has represented India in 29 Tests, 120 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 24 Twenty20 Internationals. Pathan last played for the Rising Pune Supergiant and will now represent his sixth IPL franchise. Kaushik’s replacement is the 23-year-old Soni, an all-rounder from Mumbai. Gujarat Lions’ next encounter is against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday at Bengaluru.

In a video published on the official Facebook page of the Gujarat Lions, Irfan Pathan thanked the team management for having him in the team. The video was shared with a caption which said,”The Sultan of Swing Irfan Pathan is our new Lion. #RoarForPathan#GameMaariChhe.”
Earlier on April 25, Irfan Pathan took to his official Twitter handle and announced his comeback with GL but after few minutes he took his tweet back and removed it from social media. Also, on February 20, during the IPL 2017 auction, Pathan remained unsold. But, now when it’s official that he is back, the Suresh Raina-led squad will get an all rounder who can swing the ball like a wizard and could also score with the bat in the death overs.
