Kane Williamson is the New Zealand captain and one of the best batsman in the world and is highly respected. Williamson had to sit out of the most part of the Indian Premier League as he was not fitting in the scheme of things well. But when he got an opportunity, he really made the most of it. He recently spoke in an interview on the fact that he was left out.
Kane spoke about the situation of sitting out and said, “I am not used to being in such a situation with my national team. Everyone wants to go out there and play the game as sitting in the dugout is never a great thing. But it has been a good and unique experience for me. I tried to do my best by lending a helping hand with the drinks, knocking the ball around and giving the players a few catches etc.”
On problems of plenty in the SRH dressing-room he said, “It is never easy for anyone as such. We have a bundle of exciting players and it is difficult to handle the abundance of talent. I know it’s tough for the team management too. The captain and coach always try to pick the 11 players who can deliver in a given situation. The conditions and opposition too plays a key role in the selection of the playing XI.”
“I have no complaints on that count. I am happy that I could get to play a few games and contribute to the team,” Williamson said.
“No one has the perfect team. It is all about getting the right combination going for a given game. Sometimes it’s the batting which wins matches for us. Sometimes it’s the bowlers who do the job and sometimes the fielders contribute to it. It’s all about striking the right balance and each team has its own way of arriving there,” Williamson said.
