Rising Pune Supergiant won the toss and invited Kolkata Knight Riders to bat. KKR got off to a disastrous start, they lost Sunil Narine early and then they kept losing wickets and they could not recover, finally managed 155, which was never a par score. Manish Pandey top scored with 37 off 32 balls, whereas Unadkat picked up two wickets for 28 runs off 4 overs. RPS who also need to look after their NRR for qualification in the playoffs. So taking that forward, they started on a belligerent note early with Rahul Tripathi going hell for leather.
KKR picked wickets but it was Rahul Tripathi’s night who took a liking for the KKR bowlers. Rahane was dismissed early for 11 and then Steven Smith departed for 9. Manoj Tiwary got out for 8 runs and even Ben Stokes did not get going, he left for 14. That is when KKR felt they had a ray of hope but Tripathi was playing the knock of his life. Foe KKR, Woakes scalped 2 wickets giving KKR a hope at least. Narine was also not as effective as he was expected to be, he gave away 28 runs in his 4 overs and picked up one wicket. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed the priced scalp of Mahendra Singh Dhoni for 5.
