Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and without hesitation opted to bowl first. David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan start proceedings and Nathan Coulter Nile got the new ball. Up early, Warner hit Umesh Yadav for a six straight back down the ground and that set Hyderabad on fire. Warner carried the momentum and went after the KKR bowlers. Dhawan was happy to give him the strike. After 6 overs they were 79 for no loss after 6 overs. They even set a new record of most runs in the powerplay.
David Warner did not take his foot off the pedal even once, in fact he upped it even more, Shikhar Dhawan it seemed was playing in a different planet. While Warner was on 98 Dhawan was on 19. Warner breached 100 in 43 balls, they were looking all-set to go past 230. All the KKR bowlers were ripped apart. Finally Shikhar Dhawan departed courtesy a freak runout, it was 139 for 1 after 13 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was expensive he gave away 42 runs in 4 overs. After 10 overs they were 123 for no loss but then KKR managed to get some sanctity back courtesy Dhawan’s runout, they scored 23 in the next 4 overs. Umesh Yadav gave away 30 runs in 4 overs, he was the more economical of the bowlers.
But in the 16th over Warner upped it again, hitting Narine for 3 back-to-back boundaries. Williamson was unperturbed by all that was happening around him, he kept the scoreboard ticking and Yuvraj Singh was doing the same. Woakes too was expensive he went for 46 off 4 overs without picking a wicket. SRH set 210 as target for KKR.
