It is a crucial game for KXIP as they need wins to make their way into the IPL 2017 playoffs. They are currently in 5th spot with 5 wins in 10 games and a decent net run rate that might come in handy as the fight for playoffs gets intense. On the other hand, there is GL who have been knocked out of the playoffs race having lost 8 games out of 11 this season, they are currently in the seventh spot on the IPL Points table.
Suresh Raina’s side have had tough luck in this season as they have lost several games in close encounters. They have not been able to strike a winning combination this series. With Andrew Tye ruled out of the tournament due to injury, their bowling lacks the firepower. Brendon McCullum has been ruled out as well and it seems like it Jason Roy too might just get a chance in the side after a while. Their strength lies in their batting featuring Roy, Aaron Finch, Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik, they need to score big in order to win this match. They will like the Mohali wicket as the ball comes on the bat nicely.
On the other hand, KXIP side looks lethal with Hashim Amla and Martin Guptill opening the inning. Shaun Marsh and Glenn Maxwell too can be lethal on their day and take the game away from the opposition. Though it is a possibility that David Miller or Darren Sammy gets included on the side.
In the bowling department, Sandeep Sharma has been bowling wonderfully well, creating problems for the big players and not letting them score in the powerplay overs. Their strength lies in the bowling despite no big names in it. KC Cariappa, Axar Patel, Mohit Sharma and Varun Aaron have shown their worth in this season. They will be put to test on a pace Mohali wicket. They bowled out Delhi Daredevils (DD) for 67 in the previous game at Mohali.
