After another amazing face-off in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 10, the Mumbai Indians have booked the top position in the points table after defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 5 wickets on May 1 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
After several flop performances, Virat Kohli-led RCB exhibited a better version of batting in today’s game. Though the start was similar but with the help of AB de Villiers’ heroic 43 and later the 50 plus partnership by Pawan Negi and Kedar Jadhav, Bangalore successfully managed to put a total of 162 runs on the board.
To chase the competitive target of 163 runs, Mumbai’s opening pair of Parthiv Patel and Jos Buttler came at the crease. Skipper Kohli had already analysed the behaviour of the pitch and hence, he deployed spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for the attack. Kohli move worked as Parthiv Patel was dismissed for a golden duck at the very first ball of the second innings.
After the first blow, Jos Buttler and Nitish Rana build a partnership of 61 runs for the 3rd wicket. In the 8th over, Jos Buttler departed for 33 runs off 21 by Pawan Negi. In the 1oth over, once again Negi was back with his turns and dismissed Nitish Rana for 27 runs.
Rohit Sharma came into bat number 4 and led from the front. He kept on scoring runs while wickets kept on falling at the other end. However, Krunal Pandya got retired hurt and he also had to return to the pavilion.
In the last over, it was 7 required off 6 balls for MI to win. By then, Rohit Sharma had scored his 2nd IPL 10 half century which came off 34 balls after hitting 1 six and 5 fours. At the other end, the younger Pandya, Hardik, was present to accompany the skipper.
Their collective efforts took Mumbai to the winning side as they beat RCB by 5 wickets.
