The game number 28 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 10 between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) turned out to be another nail-biter face-off. With 17 required from the last six balls, RPS bowler turned the game by dismissing skipper Rohit Sharma and Mitchell McClaneghan through a runout thereby winning the game by 5 runs. While Mumbai lost by an inch and failed to gift a victory to their mentor Sachin Tendulkar on his 44th birthday.
With this victory, Pune gained another 2 points and now they have a total of 6 points in their account.
After winning the toss, Mumbai skipper once again opted to bowl first and invited Steven Smith and Co. to bat first. Despite an amazing start, the entire batting line-up struggled later and managed to put a total of 160 runs on the scoreboard. To chase down the target, Parthiv Patel and Jos Buttler came on the field and gave a good start too.
The opening pair of Parthiv and Buttler added a total of 35 runs before Ben Stokes gave the first breakthrough to his team by dismissing Jos Buttler for 17 off 13. The in-form batsman Nitish Rana also failed to perform like previous games and was dismissed early after scoring 3 runs off 9 balls.
Once again Rohit Sharma played captain’s knock and scored his second half-century in this season. After hitting 3 sixes and 6 fours, Rohit played a magnificent knock of 58 runs off 39 balls. The lower batting order of MI terribly failed to score and finally, lost the game by 5 runs.
For RPS side, Ben Stokes bowled a superfine spell of 4 overs from which he took 2 wickets and conceded 21 runs with an economy of 5.25 runs and became the Man of the Match.
