Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced a humiliating defeat by 61 runs against the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in match number 34 of the Indian Premier League season 10 on April 29. With this loss RCB’s hopes of qualifying for play-offs virtually ended. Pune, on the other hand kept their play-off dreams alive to stay at the fourth spot after registering their fifth win from nine matches.

Nothing has gone RCB’s way, at first, it was injuries of their star players followed by a poor run, even ‘Rain Gods’ did not favour them when they played against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at home. Chris Gayle has been out of form as he has shown his mettle in only one match. AB de Villiers too is not in his prime followed by Kohli who has struggled to score big unlike the previous season of IPL where he scored 4 centuries.
Bowling too has been a problem for Kohli’s side as Sreenath Aravind, Yuzvendra Chahal, Pawan Negi, Tymal Mills, Samuel Badree have not performed the way they are supposed to. It is a pressure situation for them, the replacements have not upped the tempo for them as well. Today’s match will be under everyone’s radar as it is a virtual do or die situation for RCB.

On the other hand, RPS have had an on and off IPL 2017 so far, but, they have improved from the previous season. With Ben Stokes expected to play today’s game, it will be a big boost for Steven Smith’s side as they missed him in the previous game as well. Their top order has been doing well with domestic sensation Rahul Tripathi giving them a good start alongside Ajinkya Rahane.

MS Dhoni is back in form as well and firing fours and sixes from his bat. As RPS play on their home ground, Dhoni would be lethal as he always has been in the IPL. Stokes has finally shown his worth and been doing well with both bat and ball supported by agile fielding in the crunch situations. RPS are currently on the fourth spot in IPL 2017 standings with 4 wins in 8 games, they will be looking to keep it that way after knocking out RCB from IPL 2017.
