The game number 30 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 10 between Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Pune looked a tough one for Gautam Gambhir and Co. after the hosts put a fighting total of 182 runs on the scoreboard. But thanks to the furious knock from Robin Uthappa and moreover the lost catches by Pune fielders which gifted victory to Kolkata outside their home by 7 wickets.
KKR win the toss and elected to bowl first while invited the Pune to bat in the first innings. With a super solid start by the opening pair of Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Tripathi (65 runs partnership for the first wicket) and skipper Steven Smith’s fifty, RPS set a competitive target of 183 runs for Kolkata to chase.
Once again it was Gambhir and Sunil Narine who came in to open the innings. This time, the pair couldn’t manage to put a good score for the first wicket as by the time there were 20 runs on the board, Sunil Narine was run out at after scoring 16 runs off 11 balls.
Robin Uthappa was the next man came at number 3 to accompany the skipper. Both the batsmen charged the RPS brutally right from the 4th over. Meanwhile, Uthappa was dropped by Jaidev Undakat in the deep which turned out to be a great mistake committed by them. Uthappa scored his second IP 10 fifty and took the total very near to the required target.
On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir converted his 100th match as KKR skipper into another big one as he also scored a stunning half-century. However, in the 17th over, Kolkata lost Robin Uthappa after he scored 87 off 47 balls and later Gambhir for 62 off 46 balls but by then 5 runs were required off 18 balls to win the game.
With 11 balls remaining KKR registered another big victory and beat RPS by 7 wickets.
With this victory, KKR received another 2 point taking them to the top of the points table with a total of 12 points and surpassed Mumbai Indians.
