Jaydev Unadkat has really made Indian Premier League 10 his own. From taking a hat-trick to taking some mind-boggling catches, it has been his season to remember. In under 36 hrs from now he would be shouldering the responsibility of leading the Rising Pune Supergiant attack against a formidable Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians have in fact lost all the three matches they played against RPS. So, that means that RPS knows something about MI that other teams do not.
A humble Unadkat also spoke about getting star-struck on meeting the Wasim Akram for the very first time, he said, “I was too star struck by Akram. But I did manage to learn the art of swing bowling from him. I also learnt different ways of gripping the ball which I was not aware of. I have come a long way but the lessons with Akram taught me the basics of bowling.”
Unadkat has truly become Steven Smith’s go-to man, that is the respect he has earned due to his good performances. Speaking about the contribution of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Steven Smith is his rise, he says, “Both Smith and (Mahendra Singh) Dhonibhai know my strengths so well that they set the fields most of the time. These two guys work in tandem. If one is handling the bowlers, other instructs the fielders. In the end, I am only focused on my bowling.”
He also spoke about national call-ups and added, “I don’t want to think about national call-ups and lose my focus. My immediate target is to develop my yorkers during the off-season after the IPL. Since I was getting success with my cutters and slower ones this season, I didn’t want to try anything new.”
