Yes, ‘miracles do happen’ for people who deserve it. Sarfaraz Khan’s replacement in the Royal Challengers Bangalore side is the latest example for that. Although, Sarfaraz’s injury in a practice match before Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 opener between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was a bad news. But, it worked as a blessing in disguise for a player called Harpreet Singh who was robbed of selection in IPL Player Auction 2017 due to false news.
The 19-year-old Sarfaraz was ruled out hours after he suffered an injury in his leg trying to dive and stop the ball. On the other hand, Harpreet was in tremendous form during Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before the auctions. The 25-year-old had a whopping average of 52.75 as he hit 211 runs in four matches for Central Zone side.
Harpreet’s name was not put up for the auction because of a bizarre and unfortunate reason as his name was confused with Harmeet Singh who got involved in a road accident. Harmeet Singh rammed his car into one of the platforms at Andheri and was arrested thereafter.
His name made headlines as the unfortunate mix-up led to his exclusion from the list of players who were put up for auction. Harmeet was one of those players who was expected to fetch good prize in the auction due to his domestic performance.
RCB side is currently in trouble as they have managed to win only 2 of the 6 games they have played in this season so far. Their batting lineup needs a domestic player who can get the run rate going when their star overseas player get out early.
It seems like Harpreet Singh got lucked out just in time.
