Manish Krishnanand Pandey, yes that is the name. The 27 year-old better known as the first Indian to score a century in the Indian Premier League. Pandey has been a phenomenal batsman for the KKR outfit, and he proved that again today. KKR are chasing 169 for a win and found themselves in a spot of bother when the openers departed for paltry scores. But it was the young Nainital boy who stepped up to the plate and took the game by the scruff of the neck.
Pandey came to bat when KKR were reeling at 21 for 2. Initially, he took his time to get his eye in, he had Yusuf Pathan for company at the other end. Pandey hit 69 off 49 and remained unbeaten to see KKR home. The game boiled down to the last over and KKR needed 8 off 3 balls, when Pandey launched one down-town for a maximum. His match-winning knock comprised of three sixes and four fours.
Earlier, Pandey’s breakout international innings, however, came six months later in Sydney. In January 2016, his unbeaten maiden ODI century helped India gun down Australia’s 330 with two balls to spare and prevent a whitewash.
