Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) have paved their way to their first Indian Premier League (IPL) final and with this feat, their owner Rajeev Goenka has finally given the long due credit to the very man his sacked as the captain of the side, MS Dhoni. Rajeev Goenka was criticised for the decision to sack Dhoni as captain and replace him with Australian skipper Steve Smith. To add sparks to that his brother Harsh Goenka tweeted after every win, giving credit to everyone but Dhoni.
This controversy started making rounds on the internet as the tournament progressed. But it seems like Rajeev Goenka has finally decided to douse the flames as RPS face Mumbai Indians in IPL 10 final at Hyderabad. He told Indian Today, “When two of the best minds (Smith and Dhoni) meet this is what you get.”
Goenka went on to laud Indian youngsters for filling int the void created after injuries, he said, “The Indian youngsters in the team have exceeded expectations and have learned a lot from Dhoni and Smith.”
But, he did not refrain from giving him credit to the current skipper after beating MI for the third time in the season and making it to the final straight away, he said, “To have Smith and Dhoni in the same dressing room is a huge learning for everyone in the team. They have won everything that is there to win in world cricket and RPS has benefited as a result: see the semi-final”
