Mumbai Indians (MI) became the first team to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title for the third time and did it in style as they clinched the IPL 2017 title from a dominating Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS). They won the final by the narrowest margin of 1 run in a last-ball thriller and their mentor Sachin Tendulkar could not be happier as he lauded his team’s effort as they came back well despite a poor batting effort in the first innings.
When commentator and former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar asked Tendulkar to define MI’s effort to win the title, he said, “Amazing, simply amazing. I know the first half was not great for us but at the break time we got together and we discussed few things and Mahela (Jayawardene) also gave a nice speech in the dressing room which was needed.”

Manjrekar asked him what was the speech, Tendulkar replied with a witty comeback, “No, I can’t repeat that here but the fact is you need to thing right and the performance follows and that’s what happened. We thought right and we believed that we could pull it off and that’s what Rohit and all the team members did. Some amazing bowling and great fielding in a pressure situation.”

Manjrekar said we saw vintage Malinga tonight, bowling the quick yorkers because he has not done that in a while too much but tonight he pulled that off. On this, Tendulkar replied, “But I have always believed that once a champion, always a champion! And Malinga is known for that, he has delivered for us 10 years and I was sure that he has gonna do something tonight because he is obviously not had the kind of season that we all are used to but I know he is capable of delivering at any moment, just that one over can change. He is that one guy who can change the game”
