Virat Kohli’s form has been one of the let downs for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in this Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 season. Despite hitting four half-centuries in the season, it was not up to the expectations of the people and Kohli as well. But, Kohli made sure that he ends the season on a high, for he is unsure which team might rope him in their side after the reshuffle in IPL 2018 player auction.
Kohli came in to bat after a wicket fell in the last game against Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi. No doubt the crowd was chanting his name rather than supporting the home team. He joined Chris Gayle who was having a good time at the crease despite his poor run in the tournament. Kohli played the shot of the season against DD all-rounder Corey Anderson who came round the wicket trying to create that angle of uncertainty.
But, Kohli was up for the task, as soon as he saw a good length ball changing it’s trajectory after pitching, Kohli just pushed the ball over covers in the air. At first it seemed like Kohli had miscued it and it would get caught or go for a boundary after a couple of bounces but rather it went all the way, over the fence and into DD’s dugout.
His shot even made DD’s mentor and former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid surprised. Kohli felt the same way as he was amused how a gentle push on the up from his bat traveled the distance. Although the boundaries in Kotla are really small but the commentators were in awe as soon as they saw the ball going for a maximum, terming it as the ‘shot of the season’.
