The Thala of every Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fan, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, won a million hearts on April 7 when he and his army entered the Wankhede Stadium to play against Mumbai Indians (MI). The entire world witnessed his supreme captaincy skills and CSK later won their opening game after a nail-biting affair. Despite winning the tournament opener, Dhoni missed the chance to set a wicketkeeping benchmark.
Well, it may be hard to believe but the former Indian skipper is not the most successful wicketkeeper in the history of the cash-rich league. If we look at the list of most successful men behind the stumps in IPL, its Dinesh Karthik whose name one can find on the top. The new Kolkata Knight Riders captain is leading the table with the most number of dismissals — 106.

While Dhoni is at Number 2 position with 102 dismissals, Robin Uthappa stands third with 90 dismissals. However, Dhoni is still behind him, kind of! Yes, now there is a catch. To clarify this entire plot, here are complete stats:
Sl No | Wicket Keeper | Innings | Dismissals | Catches | Stumpings |
1 | D Karthik | 153 | 106 | 80 | 26 |
2 | MS Dhoni | 160 | 102 | 72 | 30 |
3 | R Uthappa | 150 | 90 | 58 | 32 |
As the records say, Karthik leads in terms of most number of dismissals and as well as in terms of catches taken. Likewise, Uthappa, despite being at Number 3, is ahead of Dhoni in terms of the number of stumpings.
Taking 8 or 9 catches in an inning is extremely rare but not 3 stumpings. If Dhoni gets the required number of stumpings, he will become the wicketkeeper with the most number of stumpings in IPL.
After beating MI at the edge in their first game, the CSK will face the KKR at its home ground on April 10.
