Prithvi Shaw is one of the exciting talents of Indian cricket to become an overnight sensation. But he is young and is bound to mistakes. Shaw made a horrible mistake during Delhi Daredevils’ (DD) last match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 against Mumbai Indians (MI). The 18-year-old showed lackadaisical play at the non-striker’s end which cost him his wicket.
On the first ball of the fourth over, Glenn Maxwell tried to work the ball through offside fielders but found Hardik Pandya at the point position. Hardik was quick to throw the ball and aim at the stumps on the non-striker’s end. Shaw was out of the crease and was walking slowly towards the crease, unwary of the fielders and unperturbed by the possibility that the ball might hit the stumps.
Forget about diving, Shaw did not even make an effort to drag his bat inside. After getting a decent start, Shaw just threw his wicket away. He scored 12 runs off 8 balls, including two boundaries.
Here’s the video of the bizarre dismissal —

The dismissal did not go down well with Twitterati as they expressed their anger —

“That’s unpardonably lackadaisical. It’s a schoolboy mistake from Prithvi Shaw.”
“To be fair to him, he IS a schoolboy ¯\_(ツ)_/”

@PrithviShaw getting run out in that manner reminds of @virendersehwag getting run out a few years back in an international fixture! So not only their batting style, running style also seems similar! #IPLT20 #KentCricketLive

On the high, our U19 captain Prithvi Shaw just got a free lesson from Hardik Pandya about some casual running attitude on his last IPL game of the season. #MIvsDD

@PrithviShaw is the new Rohit Sharma!!
Vulnerable against swing and very lazy. I just hope he gets better and don’t just rely on his talent to get everything done. #DDvMI— Niखिल (@itsniikk) May 20, 2018
Looked like #PrithviShaw was waiting for Jalebis he ordered moment ago.
What a foolish attitude at the Pitch#DDvMI #MIvsDD— ʟast աaʀʀɨօʀ (@DharamKarhana) May 20, 2018

Shaw has been the find of the tournament for DD. He has scored 245 runs from 9 matches played in this season, including two half-centuries. However, he has not been consistent throughout the season. In the past four outings, he has scored just 40 runs from four matches, including two single-digit scores.

He did not get chance in the side in the start this season. But an inconsistent top order, mainly former DD skipper Gautam Gambhir who stepped down from the captaincy after team’s dismal show, led to Shaw’s inclusion in the top order.
