Is This The Most Bizarre T20 Scorecard Ever?

Hitting a six to finish off this match must have been a big deal!

The ICC World T20 Asia Regions Qualifiers have produced a few outrageous low-scoring matches but this has to be a rarity in T20 cricket. Most of cricket followers did not even know whether Myanmar played cricket or not. But they have managed to get their name into the record books even though it is for wrong reasons.

The Myanmar team played 10.1 overs (61 balls), scored just 9 runs and lost 8 wickets. The embarrassment would have continued if not for rain gods who intervened during the bizarre batting collapse. 6 Myanmar batsmen got out without opening their accounts including two golden ducks.

Even though Myanmar’s batting was abysmal, Malaysian spinner stood out taking a five-wicket haul conceding just 1 run in his quota of four overs.

Only three Myanmar batsmen scored runs. The highest run-scorer for them was Ye Ko Ko Aung who scored 3 runs off 12 deliveries and remained unbeaten. The most number of deliveries faced was by Htet Lin Aung. The Myanmar skipper scored 2 runs off 17 deliveries before getting out.

As Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method came into play, the game was reduced to 8 overs per side. Malaysia needed just 6 runs to win the game in 8 overs.

This is how the Twitterverse reacted to the match:

That’s exactly what I thought

BCCI supporter spotted

Why so serious?

LOL!

Worth a shot

So that six was a home run?

It wouldn’t have mattered anyway

However, Myanmar opening bowler Paing Danu surprised the opening pair getting them out for golden ducks. Though it could not contribute to an anti-climax as Suhan Alagaratnam finished off the match it style with a six. The first boundary of the match came off the 71st delivery of the match. Saying this is the thing we found bizarre would be an understatement, as it was one of a kind T20 match which produced one of the most fascinating scorecards.
