Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju faced a major embarrassment after he posted a wrong video on Twitter while praising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for emphasising on sports, particularly football
Rijiju, who is a Member of Parliament from Arunachal West, shared a video of a kid showcasing his football skills and captioned it as: “Our PM Modi ji has given lot’s of emphasis on sports, particularly football. Our Indian team is performing much better now & younger generations are showing more interest. I’m very hopeful.”

Following this tweet, Rijiju became the target of trollers as they pointed out that “the kid isn’t Indian!”
Here are some of the reactions:

Sir ji don’t post these things unless you don’t mean it, if this is true then take action, “The football team hasn’t done well internationally and had no chance of winning medals. So there was no point sending them for the games.” – Senior IOA Official

Surprised why you should use a video from abroad to talk about India’s sports upliftment by the PM? Would you mind putting Indian team’s video. Your post with totally disconnected video is actually demeaning and insulting them.

Kindly elaborate on what the PM had done for Football?
Then how come our football captain had to urge people to come watch their game(s)?— aashish dalmia (@aashishdalmia2) July 2, 2018

Meanwhile, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) denied clearance to Indian football team, both men’s and women’s, for participation in the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia.
This will be the first time since the 1994 Hiroshima edition that an Indian team will not take part in the football competition of the Asian Games.
IOA’s this decision has certainly angered the Indian football association.
“It’s clear the IOA lacks the vision and competence to understand that football is a global sport played by 212 countries and that the top 5 teams in Asia play in the FIFA World Cup where the level of competition is far superior to the Asian Games,” the AIFF said in a statement.
The Indian football body has now planned to take the matter up to the Sports Minister, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
Earlier, Sunil Chhetri-led Indian team won the 2018 Intercontinental Cup held in Mumbai. Besides India, teams like Kenya, New Zealand and Chinese Taipei participated in the event.
Following the win, Team India jumped from 173 to 97 in the world rankings.
