Over 60,000 fans showed up to support the Indian football team (Blue Tigers) as they took on Bangladesh in FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
Saad Uddin put visitors in the front right before the end of first half as he headed the ball inside an empty goalpost. His goal came after India’s no 1 Gurpreet Singh Sandhu made a costly error mistiming his jump while dealing with an incoming ball from the left.
However, India started the second half on a positive note, despite Bangladesh creating chances throughout the final 45 minutes. Deep in the dying moments of the match, Adil Khan came to India’s rescue as he slammed a corner inside the goalpost at the 89th minute.
This comes after captain Sunil Chhetri appealed to Indians in 2018 to come out and support the Indian football team. After the video went viral, fans flooded Mumbai Football Arena to see India lift the 2018 Intercontinental Cup.
