Football or soccer is a passionate game, for the players as well as for the fans. But there are times when the passion has led to some of the most epic battles, both on-field and off-field, sometimes even in the changing rooms. The reason behind the fights was something as trivial as an unpleasant comment or a brazen racist comment or an intentional hit. The latest one which created quite was Zinedine Zidane’s headbutt at the FIFA World Cup 2016. The year 2017 was no different as tackles were made, words were exchanged, legends were pushed, and players had massive collisions on the field.
InUth takes a look at the most epic clashes between legends (in their own rights) on the football field:
1. Cristiano Ronaldo and Koke
Ronaldo had a had a head-to-head collision with Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke after a heated argument. Reportedly, Koke abused Ronaldo to which the former Manchester United player responded with a jibe of his own.
2. Gareth Bale and Jonathan Viera
Another Real Madrid star, Gareth Bale had a racist encounter with UD Las Palmas star Jonathan Viera which led to the former dismissed from the field. Reportedly Viera called Bale a ”white monkey” and ”simian”. However, Viera denied the whole incident with a tweet.
3. Lionel Messi and Yuri
The next one on the list is ‘the man who stopped Messi’. Real Sociedad’s Yuri kicked the ball at the Barcelona forward while he was still on the ground after getting tackled.
4. James Vardy and Samir Nasri
Leicester City forward James Vardy was headbutted by Sevilla midfielder Samir Nasri. Vardy initiated the fight when he pushed Nasri. The latter was sent off as he already had a yellow card to his name in the second half. Nasri’s ‘headbutt’ reminded football fans of Zidane’s infamous headbutt in the World Cup 2016 final between France and Italy.
5. Zlatan Ibrahimovic –
Another fight worth mentioning is Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Zlatan got into many nasty tackles where he was stepped on by players after a collision. While there were a few where he pushed players to the ground trying to pull off a header.
