She pipped Charlotte Edwards to achieve this feat. This is a very proud moment for India as she is the Indian captain and the most popular batter of the Indian team. India are playing Australia for a place in the semi finals. The team that wins becomes the first outfit to make the cut. Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first on a good, placid wicket. There were speculations of rain but luckily that stayed away. India lost Smriti Mandhana early for 3 and that sent India in a tizzy as she is the inform player. But that is when Mithali Raj the skipper joined Poonam Raut and forged a partnership to bail India out of the early hiccup.
Mithali Raj played a slow, steady knock, just what the doctor had ordered, she scored her 50. Mithali and Poonam stitched a partnership of a mammoth 157 runs before Mithali was out. She scored 69 off 114 balls. She was brilliantly caught and bowled by Kristen Beams. Poonam Raut went on to score a magnificent century, which will go in to the record books as a very important knock at the World stage. India has eye a target in excess of 240 to give Australia a good run for their money.
