Mohammad Nabi could not rescue his team from an inevitable loss to Zimbabwe in the second ODI but created history nevertheless. Nabi became the first Afghan batsman to break the 2,000 ODI runs mark. The former Afghanistan skipper was 28 runs short of the feat before the second ODI. He scored 31 runs from 28 balls, trying to accelerate the scoring rate but got out to Graeme Cremer. He struck 3 sixes and 5 fours in his innings.
Nabi is expected to be followed by Mohammad Shahzad on the list in the near future. He has 1,952 runs from 60 matches. With three ODIs to go, he has every chance of breaching the mark. On the other hand, Nabi achieved this feat from 88 matches (77 innings).

Afghanistan team lost the second game by a huge margin of 154 runs. Zimbabwe put on the fourth-highest total in ODIs — 333 for 5. Brendan Taylor hit a century on his comeback match, scoring 125 runs off 121 balls, including 5 fours and 8 sixes. However, he was supported by Sikander Raza from the other end who played a destructive inning of 92 runs from 74 balls, featuring 9 fours and 4 sixes.

Afghanistan could only score 179 while chasing a big total and got all out. Six Afghan batsmen got out for a single digit score. Dawlat Zadran top-scored with 47 runs from 29 balls. Had he not stitched a partnership of 64 runs for the 10th wicket, Afghanistan would have suffered an even embarrassing defeat. Their 10th wicket partnership is also the highest against Zimbabwe in ODIs.
