‘Despite ill health you played fighting game, proud of you’: Amitabh Bachchan after PV Sindu’s loss

Indian ace shuttler PV Sindhu lost the Dubai Open finals against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi on December 17. Despite giving a tough competition to her opponent and beating her by a good margin in the first set, Sindhu couldn’t win the rest of the sets and lost the game by 21-15, 12-21, 19-21. Even though the Indian sports-star had to settle for the silver medal, she gave a tough competition to the world No 2 from Japan.

People on social media were moved by Sindhu’s fight and despite her loss, poured wishes for the 22-year-old girl from Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Bollywood veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan posted a heart-warming tweet and said that he was proud of her and that she should take the loss as a means to strengthen herself.

Later, the silver medalist took to her twitter account and thanked the old warhorse of Bollywood. She tweeted:

During the final, there was a moment when the game was tied at 13-13 and both Sindhu and Yamaguchi played a non-stop 52 shots rally. Amid the tough fight, Sindhu’s cross-court drop shot made the difference as Yamaguchi only managed to slide the shuttle under the net.

It was India’s third medal in the season-ending tournament after Saina Nehwal (2011) and the mixed doubles pair of V Diju and Jwala Gutta (2009).

Sindhu interacted with media after the match ended. Speaking about her loss, Sindhu said,”This is really hard as I was so close to getting the title.”

Earlier this year, Sindhu won the India Open Superseries followed by the Victor Korea Open Superseries title.
