After two consecutive wins, a confident India takes on arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2017. Pakistan, on the other hand, has won one and drawn one in the tournament and would dearly be hoping for a win against India. India is currently sitting pretty atop Pool A with six points from two wins while Pakistan are placed second with four points. That makes the match even more interesting. Recently, India has held the edge over arch-foes Pakistan in hockey, the latest being the 6-1 thrashing in a 5th-8th place classification match of the Hero Hockey World League Semi- Final in London in June. So India will walk into this match as a confident outfit.

With four world titles and three Asia Cup titles (1982, 1985, 1989), the 14th-ranked Pakistan have been ruined by poor management and security concerns. Historically, these are two hockey heavyweights who will be clashing today. India has an all-around team with a good defence and an effective front line.
