India beat Malaysia 2-1 to clinch its 3rd Asia Cup title in Hockey. India reached the finals after trouncing Pakistan 4-0. The finals of the tournament took place in Dhaka on October 22. India started off the finals in dream fashion as Ramandeep found the back of the net in the first five minutes of the first quarter. The second goal came from Lalit, who has been in great form throughout the tournament, was finally rewarded in the finals as he gave India a handsome 2-0 lead. The Indian team got ample opportunities in the third quarter but could not take full toll of that. There were two sitters that were missed.
As expected India wanted to play possession hockey in the last quarter, but that is when Malaysia struck back with a goal. The score was 2-1 heading into the last ten minutes of the game. The last ten minutes of the game was pretty intense as India was desperately defending and Malaysia was dying for an equaliser. In the dying moments, the game became intriguingly interesting. But it was the Blues who emerged trumps from that situation clinching a victory, which can be touted as a nail-biter or a photo finish.
