At a time when our cricketers, shuttlers are getting crores of rupees, government jobs, land, and even luxury cars as reward money, an unusual gift has been announced for the Indian women boxers. The six women boxers who made the nation proud by winning 5 gold medals and two bronze medals in the recently concluded AIBA World Women’s Youth Boxing Championships in Guwahati, will get Indian breed cows as a reward.
Haryana’s Animal Husbandry minister Om Prakash Dhankar on November 30 announced that all the four gold medalists and the two bronze medalists of World Youth Women Boxing will be rewarded with one Indian breed cow each. Apparently, cow’s milk will not only sharpen the mind but also make women beautiful!

Explaining the ‘benefits’ of cow’s milk for boxers. Minister told Indian Express,
(Unlike buffalo’s milk) cow’s milk contains less fat and is beneficial for boxers… a cow is very active, while a buffalo sleeps most of the time
He added,
Haryana main kehte hain, haanga chahiye toh bhains ka doodh, aur khoobsarti aur dimag chahiye, toh gai ka doodh (They say in Haryana that if you want power, drink buffalo milk; and if you want beauty and brains, drink cow’s milk). These boxers have done the country proud at the world level and we want them to excel more
Besides two bronze medals, Nitu, Jyoti, Sakshi, Shashi Chopra and Ankushita Boro clinched yellow metals for India. It was the biggest medal haul in the championship, followed by Russia (2 gold, 4 silver).
