#IndiaProud: Meet Aanchal Thakur, the first Indian to win international medal in skiing

The 21-year-old won a bronze medal in Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup organised by the Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS) in Turkey

Manali girl Aanchal Thakur on January 9 brought laurels to the country after she became the first Indian to win an international medal in skiing. She won the medal in the slalom race category.

The 21-year-old won a bronze medal in Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup organised by the Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS) in Turkey.

Aanchal took to her Twitter account after winning the medal and tweeted:

Finally something unexpected happened. My first ever international medal._ Federation International Ski Race (FIS). At the end turkey served me well __.

Following her success, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Aanchal with a special message. PM Modi on his Twitter handle wrote:

Well done @alleaanchal for winning an international medal in skiing! The entire nation is ecstatic on your historic accomplishment at the FIS International Skiing Competition in Turkey. Wishing you the very best for your future endeavours.

Besides PM Modi, India’s sports minister Rajyavardhan Rathore also took to his Twitter account to congratulate the girl. He wrote:

Aanchal hails from Burua, a small village in Manali.
