Jharkhand’s Tribal Teenage Archer Gora Ho Makes India Proud, Wins Gold At Asia Cup

Gora has owned more than 100 medals in the past 6 years.He is now aiming to win a medal for the country in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020

Gora Ho, a teenager from the tribal belt of Jharkhand, was an unknown name until he and his teammates beat the Mongolian archery team at the Asia Cup Archery Stage 1 meet in Bangkok this week. Gora clinched the gold medal and so did his two companions named Akash and Gaurav Lambe from the Indian camp. This trio defeated Adiyasuren Baasankhuu, Otgonbold Baatarkhuyag and Gantugs Jantsan 27-26 in the tie-breaker and upgraded the medal tally of India with three gold and two bronze.

The 17-year-old boy from Jharkhand has reached this platform after crossing several hurdles in his life. Six years back when he left the Arjuna Archery Academy in Kharswan and decided to train further at the Dugni Archery Academy, his coaches motivated him to take archery seriously.

After fighting all the odds and losing her mother two years back, this Jharkhand youngster now dreams big with his aiming talent. In the last 6 years, Gora has owned more than 100 medals at state and national level in his age-group. In 2014, he won 3 gold medals at the National School Games in Ranchi. A year later, he took the medal count to 10 at the Jharkhand Archery Championships.

After all these achievements, the state government finally recognised his talent in 2016 and honoured him with the state-of-the-art equipment including a bow that cost Rs 2.70 lakh.

As per several media reports, Gora is now aiming to win a medal for the country in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
