The Indian fans of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) were highly delighted when they saw The Great Khali thrashing the Undertaker in the ring. It was a time when to have an Indian in western wrestling tournaments was virtually unheard of and the wrestler from Punjab throttled the entire WWE fraternity with his presence. That was just the beginning for the 7 ft 1-inch Indian son and now, after so many years, an Indian daughter has come to the fore and shown her presence on the famous wrestling stage. Meet Kavita Devi from India – a trouble for the existing women wrestlers.
Kavita Devi, a former power lifter, hails from Haryana. She is a police officer and has been trained under Indian WWE star the Great Khali at his Punjab-based wrestling promotion and training academy. She participated in the WWE Dubai Tryout earlier this April where she left each and every spectator awestruck. She was one of the 32 wrestlers chosen to compete in the tournament which was named after legendary MMA wrestler Mae Young.
The above clip is of the match in which Kavita Devi and New Zealand’s Dakota Kai locked horns in the ring. She smashed the foreign lady fighters in the 20×20 ring and that too while donning a Salwar kameez with a dupatta tied around her waist. Though Kavita looks dominating in the match, the game turned around in the end and Dakota Kai eventually emerged as the winner.
According to an Indian Express report, WWE Talent Development Vice President Canyon Cayman applauded Kavita Devi’s performance. He was quoted as saying,
Kavita Devi gave a strong performance at WWE’s 2017 Dubai try out. She is an athletic and extremely strong woman who demonstrated a solid grasp of the fundamentals of sports entertainment, and a passion to improve that will serve her well in WWE’s upcoming Mae Young Classic tournament.
