22-year-old race driver from Bengaluru, Akhil Rabindra was picked among 23 young drivers to be a part of the prestigious Aston Martin Racing (AMR) Young Driver Racing Academy. He is the only Indian and Asian driver to undergo year-long training and assessment from the Aston Martin Racing team in the UK. Rabindra will compete for the reserve driver’s spot in the Aston Martin Racing works team in the 2020 season of the World Endurance Championship.
Selected from 100 applicants across the world, Rabindra had to undertake competitive tasks endure physical tests and pass racing simulator tests to make it. Speaking to AMR, Rabindra stated,
“I am very excited to be selected for the Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy. Being the only Indian and Asian in this group of elite drivers gives me a rush of excitement and pride to be a representative of my country as well as my continent to embark on this very prestigious journey. I look forward to a great season of learning and success.”
Rabindra currently races an Aston Martin GT4 in the 2019 European Series. He also drove in the Formula 3 in 2016 for Lanan Racing and chosen from the Asia Pacific region for the prestigious FIA Institute Young Drivers Excellence Academy in 2014.
