It is yet another final for the silver medalist from Rio, PV Sindhu. Earlier on day 6 of the World Badminton Championship, Saina Nehwal lost her battle in a 3-set encounter against Nozomi Okuhara. But it was PV Sindhu who kept the Indian flag fluttering with her win over ninth seed Chen Yufei of China 21-13, 21-10 in 48 minutes in a breathtaking display to set-up a title clash against Japanese seventh seed Nozomi Okuhara, who had got the better of the other Indian, Saina Nehwal.
Nozomi Okuhara surely cannot be taken lightly after her show against the other Indian Saina Nehwal. All eyes will be on Sindhu to see if she can finally break the jinx and win the gold. She already has a couple of bronze medals at the same event in 2013 and 2014. This time she would dearly be hoping she goes the distance. Okuhara would be a tough competitor as she showed against Saina.
The final promises to be a mouth watering clash, given the fact that both shuttlers have faced each other a total of six times and have won three matches each. Their last meeting came earlier this year in Singapore, where the Indian won in three games. Additionally, Sindhu had actually defeated Okuhara on the way to her historic silver medal in Rio last year. One can jump the gun and say Sindhu may hold the edge considering she has got the better of Okuhara in the last two encounters, but this is a different stage, it is the all-important finals and nothing can be predicted.
