Ravindra Jadeja becomes the first-ranked ICC all-rounder after getting banned!

Ravindra Jadeja got banned for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct but his performance earned him the top spot in ICC Test all-rounder rankings

Ravindra Jadeja recently got banned for a Test and also had to pay 50 per cent match fees as fine. But that didn’t stop him from dethroning Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to become the No.1 ICC all-rounder post his performance in the Colombo Test. Jadeja’s career-high ranking is now followed by Shakib, Ravichandran Ashwin, Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes. Jadeja is now leading two ICC Test Rankings, as he still maintains the top rank on ICC Test bowler list.

Jadeja performed reasonably well in the second Test at Colombo. He scored an unbeaten 70 off 85 balls and picked up 7 wickets including a five-wicket haul in the second innings which turned the Test in India’s favour on Day 4.

While Jadeja shot up in the rankings, Ashwin was pushed to the third spot in ICC Test bowler rankings by James Anderson who recently took 7 wickets against South Africa.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, too, have moved up the ladder after hitting centuries in the Colombo Test. Pujara has moved to the 3rd position in ICC Test Batsman rankings whereas Rahane has moved to the 5th spot after jumping six positions. Wriddhiman Saha too went up in the rankings as he is now the 44th ranked batsman. KL Rahul too jumped two positions and now is in 12th spot on the batsmen ranks.

While three batsmen went uphill, skipper Virat Kohli faced a minor setback, slipping to the 5th position in the rankings. The list is led by Australian skipper Steven Smith followed by England skipper Joe Root.

Sri Lankan players too progressed in the rankings despite losing the Test series with one Test to go. Kusal Mendis went up from being the 19th to the 10th ranked batsman, with the courtesy of his fighting knock in the third innings. Dimuth Karunaratne’s resilience got him to 24th spot whereas Niroshan Dickwella moved to 68th.
