Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have bad news pouring in even before the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 10. After Virat Kohli’s shoulder injury, speculations are that KL Rahul might miss the whole season of the T-20 league due to his shoulder injury, which he suffered in Pune Test where he was the top scorer.
Rahul played through the Border-Gavaskar Test series with the shoulder injury and emerged as the top run-scorer for India with 6 half-centuries to his name, most by any batsman in India-Australia series. Rahul also emerged as an invaluable opener or top order batsman for RCB as he was the third highest run-scorer in IPL 2016 after skipper Kohli and stand-in captain AB de Villiers.
According to a leading news publishing website report, Rahul might go under the knife for the treatment of his shoulder injury. Rahul had trouble playing short deliveries because of his shot selection became limited due to the injury he incurred. One could notice Rahul ducking to short deliveries and suppressing his natural instinct to attack the bowlers.
In the fast-paced IPL, one needs to be on top of their game and use every possible shot in the book or invent a few if the game calls for it. With Rahul having been injured, he could not play his natural game which was crucial for getting RCB off to a flier in every game. Rahul might travel to England to get his treatment.
RCB mentor Daniel Vettori revealed on March 30 that de Villiers will be captaining the side in absence of Kohli who has been recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered on Day 1 of the Ranchi Test. Vettori will be looking for replacements from the available pool of players or roping in a few domestic talents in order to fill in the space of a wicketkeeper-batsman.
